A Healthy Baby Boy After Three Failed IVF Cycles
Mr. Kumar, 40, and Mrs. Shanti, 34, had been trying to conceive for nearly four years. After two unsuccessful IUI cycles and three failed IVF cycles, they were understandably losing hope.
When they consulted Dr. Y. Swapna, she carefully reassessed their previous treatment history. Testing showed that Mrs. Shanti’s egg reserve was satisfactory, while Mr. Kumar had mildly elevated sperm DNA damage, which had not been identified during their earlier treatment.
Dr. Swapna planned their treatment using the couple’s own eggs and sperm, with close attention to egg and sperm quality, embryo development and the uterus. PGT-A testing identified two healthy embryos. Based on the results and Mrs. Shanti’s age, a single embryo was transferred.
The transfer resulted in a successful pregnancy, and the couple later welcomed a healthy baby boy.
One IVF Cycle. Two Healthy Babies. Years Apart.
This couple consulted us when the wife was 28 and the husband was 33 years old in 2017. At that time, they had been married for four years and had undergone an IVF cycle in 2016 outside Nova, which resulted in a negative outcome. The IVF was done due to bilateral tubal block.
After they visited us, we carried out the necessary investigations and initiated IVF treatment. This resulted in eight Day-5 embryos of very good quality. These embryos were frozen, and the couple was advised to have an embryo transfer in the following one or two months.
However, due to some personal reasons, the couple could not have the embryo transfer until 2020. In 2020, they had two embryos transferred, which resulted in a single healthy baby.
Following that, in 2022, they came back and had a single embryo transferred. This again resulted in a healthy male baby. They still had five embryos remaining in cryopreservation.
So, with just one IVF cycle, even though they could not immediately undergo the embryo transfer, we were able to freeze the embryos for nearly three to five years and later transfer them successfully, resulting in healthy babies.
The important point in this case is that we did everything necessary before IVF to ensure that we obtained a good number of embryos. These embryos were then frozen using a scientifically sound method so that they remained in a healthy condition and resulted in healthy babies even after three to five years. They still have 5 frozen embryos preserved.
